The causes of acid reflux sore throat and how to deal with it
Have you ever had a burning sensation in your gut? You could be
suffering from what is referred to as acid reflux and could be subject
to acid reflux sore throat. This happens when the sphincter, the
muscle that act as the door to the stomach does not properly seal off
the stomach from the esophagus and so the food that has been digested
in the stomach travels back to the esophagus. This leaves a person
with a feeling of excess acidity in the esophagus and sometimes in the
mouth. The acidity of the partially digested food may cause ulcers in
the esophagus.
Not only can the acidity cause ulcers, but it can also cause the
lining of the throat to become inflamed and lead to acid reflux sore
throat. The intensity of the sore throat is dependent the acidity of
the regurgitated food. Acid reflux should be treated as fast as
possible to prevent other infections from taking place. Acid reflux
sore throat is a symptom of acid reflux.
Other symptoms of acid reflux are difficulty in breathing and in
certain cases the inflammation of the tonsils. Tonsillitis in
sufferers may bring about difficultly in breathing. The inflammations
of the tonsils may clear out in a matter of weeks by using
antibiotics, but the sore throat may continue for sometime. This
condition can cause heart disease and needs to be dealt with as soon
as the symptoms show up.
Treatment of acid reflux sore throat is best done at the initial
stages; home treatment like gargling warm salt water has worked for
centuries in the treatment of acid reflux sore throat. The treatment
involves the removal of the acids that are in the throat since they
are the main cause of acid reflux sore throat. You can neutralize the
acid by using any known antacid or by stimulating the production of
saliva by chewing gum. Saliva has been known to be an antacid of sorts
which neutralizes the acids that are left in the throat and relieving
the sore throat. Antibiotics are a medical way of treating this kind
of sore throat. A prescription of come antibiotics is best rather than
a self prescription. The doctor should know your health condition and
prescribe the drug depending on how your body will react to it. Eating
less food is a preventive measure as there will be a less chance of
regurgitation of the food.
